From the President:

I just received this from honorary classmate, Chet Gladchuk. We've done very well supporting bowl games in the past and the final two paragraphs certainly give us plenty of incentive. Please consider this well.

Thanks,
Kevin

To All Class Presidents!

Last week I had the privilege of speaking to the Council of Class Presidents. In addition to a Physical Mission overview, we talked about the upcoming Texas Bowl on December 31st in Houston. I asked those in attendance to consider coming to the game, and if not, supporting the midshipmen, enlisted military personnel and their families.

The last time we played in this particular bowl game, we enjoyed the support of 25,000 Navy fans, 7,500 of which attended as guests in part due to donated tickets by our alumni, fans and friends. Only one week into our being eligible for the game, we already have close to 5,000 military personnel requesting a similar accommodation. We expect to surpass the 7,500 we hosted in 2003.

The Texas Bowl is a big time event. Expectations by the bowl committee are a sold out game with 70,000 in attendance. They have already sold 50,000 tickets! We are working diligently to create our usual significant presence of Navy support.

The Superintendent and Commandant have authorized and challenged the entire Brigade to make the trip. We may surpass the 2,200 midshipmen who attended when we played Texas Tech in 2003. This bowl is a “big one” and we especially need class support. If we can realize at least 30 classes to donate 150-200 tickets each, we would be very much on our way to great success and significant Navy visibility in the stands. The NAAA will share the cost of a ticket with the class as well. We will locate our midshipmen in the “better and more visible” seats for ESPN national television ($40 locations) and are asking your class to donate $25 of each ticket cost. The NAAA will pay for the balance.

This game is special and we are matched up against a Big 12 opponent (i.e. Texas A & M, Oklahoma, Kansas and Nebraska are all possibilities at this time). We need to make this event an across the board “team effort” where as the coach says…”everyone is in.”

Please help us put forth the best Face of the Navy, accomplish our goals of at least 20-25,000 Navy fans in attendance, 2,500 midshipmen, thousands of enlisted and families, all there to cheer on our great Navy team in this historic year!

The Supe has challenged the Brigade to attend. He is subsidizing their travel expenses to a significant degree. We need to do our part and muster up the tickets to accommodate this expected Brigade demand.

Imagine the scene…70,000 in attendance, 25,000 Navy fans, 2,000 midshipmen, 5,000 military personnel, the march-on, the pageantry, the national TV coverage, the Face of our Navy in Big 12 country.

Let’s work together, all do our part, and the sum of it all is another program victory for Navy football, our Academy, and the national respect we continue to earn.

200 tickets x $25 each = $5,000! (You can do it!) And 100% tax deductible. We are on track for the most successful year in Navy Football history. Let’s “punch it in.” My appreciation in advance and always,

Expect to Win,

Chet

P.S. To make the challenge fun - all classes that break the 150 total donated tickets benchmark will earn a 15% off their season tickets in 2010 for every classmate who donated four or more tickets. The classmates who donate the most (class total) will get 25% off of the 2010 season ticket for all individuals who donated four or more in that class. When a classmate makes a donation on line, designate in the special handling box your class year for credit.

Finally, the individual who exhibits the single most significant leadership donation by December 4th will be given two sideline passes for the Army-Navy Game. That means a leadership donor and guest will have access to the sideline to watch the Game (if they choose) with the team. Trust me, this is special!
